§ 34.43. Powers and duties of the city manager.
(a)
The city manager shall be responsible for the decision to employ, discharge, demote, or suspend city employees in the classified service, except as herein provided.
(b)
Recommendations of discharge, demotion, or suspension of employees may be made to the city manager by the employee's respective department head, or the city manager on his own authority may initiate discharge, demotion, or suspension proceedings. The city manager, upon investigation of the facts as reported by the respective department head or upon his own independent investigation, shall make his decision as to the disposition of the case, whether to discharge, suspend, or demote the employee or retain the employee.
(c)
The city manager shall furnish to any city employee of classified status who shall have been discharged, demoted, or suspended, a written statement setting forth the reasons for such discharge, demotion, or suspension.
