§ 155.01. Purpose; Intent.

  • (A)

    The City recognizes and affirms that persons and entities have an interest in communicating commercial and non-commercial speech through the use of signs. It is the intent of this chapter to provide uniform sign criteria which regulates the size, height, and placement of signs within the City and thereby promote and protect the public health, safety, general welfare, and aesthetics of the City.

    (B)

    It is intended, among other things, to avoid excessive visual clutter, distractions or hazards for pedestrians and vehicles. Therefore, the display of signs should be appropriate to the land, building or use to which they are appurtenant and be adequate, but not excessive, for the intended purpose of identification.

    (C)

    It is further intended to enhance and protect the physical appearance of the community, preserve the scenic and natural beauty of the City, and prevent interference with the intended use of public property and rights- of-way.

    (D)

    Additionally, this chapter is intended to provide for the safety and general welfare of the traveling public by reducing distractions, interference with line of sight, and encroachment into clear zones.
